Nice hotel, shame about the mouse! Nice hotel and location, but we woke up to find that a mouse had visited our room and ate our chocolate! We found this distressing and reported it to the staff at reception on our departure. They found the whole incident

Overall we were very satisfied with the hotel. The room was well presented and comfortable, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast was good. The hotel is very conveniently situated for central London (adjacent to two tube stations)and a range of local shops/restaurants. Our only complaint would be that the room was very small (there was nowhere to open a suitcase) but for a short stay in London was adequate. We thought the hotel was good value for money.

The room I had was small -just another room for the bed alongside the door to the ensuite. A bigger person may have had problems trying to close the bathroom door without falling into the toilet!

Hotel was in a fabulous location, we moved room from one that overlooked the (somewhat noisy) street below to one overlooking a car-park but it was worth it for the peace and quiet. Staff were extremely helpful, facilities good except for the one rather dodgy lift! Rooms were tiny...if one person wanted to move around, the other had to sit on the bed but overall Id stay here again

The rooms are all newly fitted out but also very small (Ive stayed here twice) but the standard is very good. It feels very clean and bright and is very good value for the location. Great to have a decent TV.

On the whole the hotel was very good although the pictures on the website do not reflect the actual size of the rooms! The location is ideal as it is a 30 second walk from Hyde Park and you can easily access the rest of london via Bayswater tube station (which is again a 30 second walk).

Great location and grand entrance, rooms are small and little too small for cumfort sometimes. The water was only Mildly warm even after waiting for 30 min the reason given was that the boiler was at the base ment the n later i was told its on the top floor? and the pressure was weak. amazing location i expected more but i guess you get for what you get. there was hardly enough room for our lougage and ourselves int eh room and out wake up call was never made. and its meant to be an automated system. teh staff were friendly and undrestanding but the room and its quality were a bit of a let down.

Very nice hotel and fantastic value for money - especially for london! The only blip was i booked a twin room and me and my friend had to share a double bed! Apart from that was very impressed with the room - even had a plasma tv. Definately recommended!

I liked my room - I was upgraded on arrival and whilt the room was very small is was very comfortable and so much so that I decided to stay a second night and I was pleased that the reservations department were able to negotiate a reasonable price with me although the reception team seemed keen on me paying £25.00 more - maybe theyre not given authority to negotiate rates with guests I dont know - however overall I have had an enjoyable stay so far - if this changes tonight I shall let you know! ;-)

I had a great time in London at this hotel, the location is more than best if I can say so.. it was so close to Kensington palace, so close to the tube - just around the corner less than 1 min. The room was clean, had a problem with closing the balconys door but had been fixed meantime when asked. The room not very big though but cosy. Cheers, Liliana

For a short stay this hotel is great. Although the room is small the decoration is fantastic. Take the stairs down to the reception rather than the lift and the sensitive renovation of such a great building is worth the walk. Very good value for such a centrally based hotel.

Very nice hotel in the centre of London with easy tube access. Very small room butnicely furnished. No where though for wife to do make up! Also only one lift working making coming up and down to room tiresome

unfortunatley we left behind some belongings when we checked out of this hotel. When we realised this we informed the hotel telling them exactly where we left them in the room, only for them to say, no we never, I thought the customer was always right. I suggest they review there house keeping staff or all get checked out at the local hospital as they seemed to get amnesia after we left.

not bad value for money. the only really thing which we felt wasnt upto standard was the bathrooms. if you are of a large size then you would struggle to get into the bathroom, as you couldnt open the doors fully as the bathroom was VERY small.

The hotel was beautiful looking on the outside, was true to its word about being so close to the tube station which was ideal...and although the inside of the hotel was just as beautiful as the outside...out room was small,especially the bathroom! But the hotel, and the staff belonging to...are all very nice for a one night stay,so ideal foe me:)

I cant fault the value or location of this hotel. Youre getting a lot of smart for your money. However, as a business customer it is crucial that I get my wake-up call and I didnt. Luckily, it wasnt the disaster it might have been but this is the only area for improvement I can think of.

Hmmm, the room was so small the bathroom door wouldnt even open fully..it hit the loo half way!! really poor design!! The staff were not the most helpful..when we requested a bigger room they said that we already have the biggest and there were not any bigger ones..yeah right! When we asked to buy some water (as the bar closed at 11pm) they said that someone would bring it to our roon but no-one came. When I went downstairs to get it the bloke said that they dont have any still water and that he wasnt a bar man..very professional! It then took him 10 mins to get some TAP water from the kitchen. Overall the staff were c*ap and very unhelpful. Think twice about paying for these cheap deal hotels as it just seems like a con. Who in the right mind would pay £250 for a night. We got it for £69 and now we know why. You get more for your money at the Travel Lodge!

nice bathroom, flash but why no shower curtain? Great Flat screen TV, not that it was watch. Itwas last place i would of expected to see a cock roch. But for vaule for money and just to have a place to lay your head for the night i didnt expect the Ritz . cheers

Pluses,cheap,pretty good location,minuses,no aircon not working ! room got to warm to get under the covers!,room size of a shoe box,thought i was on a ship! bar had no draught beer,no lime for my mexican beer,very poor 1 star bar. Well what can you expect for the money?

As a food and travel writer who has written about hotels around the I enjoyed the location of the Shaftesbury, Hyde Park hotel but would not recommend it to anyone else. I felt it was so cramped that I felt it was like being on a ship. Steps actually inside the room could he hazardous to your health. Bathrooms nicely decorated, but for older travellers using the high stepping bath and shower was dangerous. Also, alas, the shower water flow was weak. TV is big and excellent quality--almost as big as the bathroom!!!! ivor davis

I would not rate this 4 star hotel, it is of a 3 star level, rooms very small and cluttered, bathrooms good and modern. All looks a little shabby. Arriving late and wanting a bed for the night at £49.00 it was good value for money,

The hotel room is extremely small. No space to even walk around the bed. Seemed nice and clean till i found a pair of knickers under the bed, which were not mine. TV isnt clear - all you can see is bubbles. Staff are nice. In my opinion - not worth half of what i spent.

The hotel was great!right next to Hyde Park and round the corner was an excellent selection of multicultural resturants and cafes,an ice rink and bowling.very close to Queensway tube station on the central line.we only stayed for 2 nights so we didnt eat in the hotel resturant but what we did see of the staff was pleasant and they were polite and happy to help.the room was small but it had everything needed and a lovely flat screen TV.bed was comfy and shower was powerful and hot.all in all great value for money would thoroughly recommend it!

bar was very uniteresting and there was hardly ever a bartender or maid to serve at the bar, staff were friendly, however room service was extremely limited to very early hours of the morning and only dinner this has caused considerable inconvenience unfortunately but all in all i have enjoyed my stay and felt welcomed in the shaftsbury. i would stay there again.

When i booked this hotel with you, your confirmation described our room s an EXECUTIVE twin. We arived at the hotel before our room was ready we were able to leave our bags which was fine, we then went into London and saw the shows we had booked returning to the hotel at about midnight,we were given our keys and bags and went to the room which contained 1 double bed and a fold up sofa chair (i think you will agree that is not an executive room) we were very tired and did not insist on changing rooms, the sofa chair was under a plate glass window which leaked as the weather was very wet which meant by morning the sofa chair was very wet also. It was not a comfortable experience for either of us, my friend decided to return home on the 26/11/06 due to this i had to stay as i had a ticket for a concert that evening. As this was the 1st time my friend and i had shared a room on a mini break i felt the room let us down.

The hotel from the outside looks impressive but an "Executive Double Room" was smaller than any room i have EVER seen! I may as well have been in a tent, it would have provided me with a more spacious feeling. The water pressure in the shower could be described as nothing more than a light drizzle. With no mini bar and a refrigerator we were expected to remove from the cupboard ourselves just to plug in, we will not be spending another minute suffering from claustrophobia in this hotel.

this hotel has a lovely facade and was once a beautiful building, the reception area, lounge and bar are excellent, however and this is a big however, the rooms are like boxes, good furnishings and lovely bathroom, but you can just about walk around the bed, there is a tiny wardrobe and no room to sit at a table or even in the chair, our window was very small and with the dark wood furnishings it felt quite claustrophobic. Every time I went through reception someone was complaining about the size of the rooms. Ok if you literally just want a room to sleep in.

Read some reviews and was expecting cupboard size bedrooms. Rooms were more than adequate i.e. twin rooms and the bathroom had underfloor heating and a bath. Had expected only a shower. The porter/concierge is truly worh mentioning. he was a delight to deal with and most helpful. Breakfast is basic but more than adequate. Would I go back?.....yes and would recommend it also. Nothing posh but great value and has a great location.

Hotel had problems and had to re-locate guests due to water supply issues. Not their fault, however...the way that they re-located me to another hotel was not acceptable, with the other hotel having to be contacted three times before they could find my booking and it was originally not in my name so no-one knew I was going to arrive the next day. There was no room upgrade paid for by the Clarion (as is normal practice if you have the amount of hassle that I had) and they did not use DCH as the intermediary leaving me to do all the running around until I alerted DCH to the problems. I would not even bother thinking about booking this hotel again. Unfortunatley this site does not have a grumpy face only a single smiley so that is what I have had to give it although I would rather have give it :-(

Dont stay here unless you are a very small person - rooms are tiny although newly refurbished. We stayed in October and the hotel was far too hot. Staff very poor at responding to requests - Id rather pay a bit more and get a decent hotel in future.

it is indeed a great value for money, however, the room was somehow crowded... too many furnitures and the standing lamp was not necessary at all. Free Biscuits would have been ideal...just as other hotels... last thing to comment on is the shower... the water pressure was too low and the water was not hot... but great price of the hotel...i love the plasma tv too.... and very comfortable bed.. thanks

The hotel was clean, and perfectly located for a w/e break in the city. 2 mins from tube, local variety of super international cuisine all within a 5 min walk. Although compact the room was equiped with everything and on a short break was ideal. The monetary difference between 3&4* was minimal so it was worth while.I would reccommend and I would go back.

The rooms are extremely small and only suitable for single occupancy. The overall standard of the room was good, having been recently refurbished. However the air-conditioning does not work making the rooms hot and stuffy. The shower ran cold most of the time and it takes at least 30 minutes to fill the bath. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Location was reasonable (Queensway for the Central Line, Bayswater for Circle & District)but a bit of a hike if you go to a show in the evening. A good place if you are on a budget but I prefer to pay more and get more space

stayed here for 8 nights, first day impression was terrible(no aircon, low/no pressure for running water...couldnt shower first night! Phone didnt work, lots more to the one room then...it was a mess!) and asked to switch rooms for the rest of the stay. Dont be fooled by the picture, it looks nothing like it, the rooms/bathroom are rather small, but livable. best features are the big plasma screens and free internet! Location is excellent too!

The room was small, but that is to be expected in many London Hotels. The water pressure was terrible. The room was very clean and modern. Dont leave your bags with ths hotel. They store them on the fourth floor and they are not secured.

An inordinate amount of money seems to have been spent on the furnishings in the rooms of this hotel, but with no planning attached. No A/C, windows dont open, bathroom too small too swing a hamster, let alone a cat, shower OK for someone 6tall and 6" wide, clinging shower curtain, not a door, wardrobe not very deep etc. It has the potential to be something exquisite, but fails badly.

The rooms are tiny, but they are modern and clean and at only £59 per room, we thought it was a bargain. We only stayed for 1 night, and to be honest I wouldnt have wanted to stay much longer or to spend too much time in the room. However, if all you need is a bed for the night, in a good location, I would recommend it. Check in is a lenghty process though!

Very ornate and stunningly decorative old building both inside and out. The only disappointments were the air conditioning was still not working, our room had a really bad smell of damp which lasted the 3 days we were there and the water pressure is very low on the 9th floor, therefore the shower and bath were little more than a trickle. If these hiccups could be rectified, this would be an excellant choice.

I was staying in the hotel from 20-23/9/06. The double bed I was given is queen sized. Not king sized as advertised. The room is compact as confirmed by the hotel staff that most of their rooms are small. The corridors leading to the rooms are narrow. The room is stuffy as the window is not big enough and the toilet is like a heater without any opening. It is so small that when you are inside, every corner is within reach. I did not bother to request for any change as I was told the room given to me was one of the bigger ones and yet it can only have queen sized bed. One plus factor is that the breakfast area is airconditioned and spacious. Also, the furnitures and fittings in the hotel are all new. If you are going with a family of children and elderly, this is not a good hotel.

I never actually got to stay at this hotel. When I arrived it was like a scene from Fawlty Towers. Many customers were not allocated a room, even though they had confirmations. Those who did have a room were complaining because there was no hot water and no air-conditioning. There was no-one serving in the bar, no room service available and the porters could not understand basic requests. The receptionists were clearly stressed and not coping very well with a very difficult situation. I finally got moved to another hotel. I understand this hotel has just re-opened, so lets hope they get their act together.

The Hotel itself was very nice. The rooms were quite small but we only stayed 2 nights so didnt bother us too much. The only thing that was an issue was that the air con wasnt working. It was a cool day but the room was very hot. Not good as it wasnt nice trying to sleep!! Also, the showers wasnt great either.Would stay again if they sorted the air con out.

When we arrived at the hotel they had given our room to someone else. Staff were inpolite and we had to move to another which was terrible. No refunds were given for our disruption and it wrecked our weekend. I would advise anyone not to stay here or there other hotel in town they are bothe rubbish

I went to this hotel with very low expectations after reading the reviews. So when i arrived i was very surprised to find a beautiful hotel, helpful staff and excellent value for money. For the money i paid for my room you could barely get a 2 star hotel in london. Yes the rooms are small but its the same in most hotels in london. The quality of the fixtures and fittings in the rooms was excellent and the public areas were beautiful i saw people on the street looking in the windows. I had a problem connecting my apple laptop to the wireless and the staff went to every length to help me even asking the technician to come to the hotel. the location is perfect and i did not have to fight my way through crowds of complaining guests to check in. I think all the problems this hotel had have been sorted out and i would highly reccomend it, the next time i stay in london i will be staying here.

no air con in room, can only liken it to an oven when I was there. Fridge didnt work, staff seemed frazzled by constant complaints, I felt sorry for them. Was annoyed that phones were removed from room, very suspect considering everyone staying was complianing?!? hmm. Anyhow had to find alternate accomodation on 2nd night. In fairness was charged for only one nights stay, however phone materialised on check out day.. very suspect. Overall nice new hotel(albeit rather cramped, not large sized friendly) get the air con sorted, and I would consider another stay as would be good value.

The hotel started operation a month ago. There are still some rooms without air condition. I was assigned a room without air condition at first and needed to request to change to another room. Free Internet service was wonderful. The hotel was very close to two subway stations. It was very convenient.

Excellent Hotel hadnt been open very long so there were a few teething pproblems, but the staff sorted them out as soon as we asked. Standard and location were excellent, will go back soon
